Training Courses

"Providing aquatic programs that will enrich lives
is what we do here every day"

Our American Red Cross courses offer opportunities for Aquatic enthusiasts who seek continuing education or certification. These Courses include the   Lifeguard Training and First Aid program or Lifeguard Management program, the Sport Saftey Trainig program, the Community First Aid and CPR program , the CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer Course and the Safety Training for Swim Coaches program. Each program offers the latest in technology and expert instruction needed to meat and exceed the requirements for commercial and or Parks and Recreation Aquatic Faculities. All courses are held at the CISD Natatorium among the finest aquatic facilities in the United States.


What is the Lifeguard Training and First Aid Program?

Program Description: To teach Lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly effectively to emergencies, and prevent drowning and injuries. This course includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 Administraton and Blood Bourne Pathogens.

Course Length: 31 hours
Prerequisites: Be 15 years of age by the end of the class.  Pass a pre-course screening in swimming skills.

Fee:  (Check or Money Order)    
  Per Course   $ 200.00   (Payable to CISD)

Registration Deadline is one week before the first day of class

The ARC Lifeguard Training and First Aid certification program requires an closed book written examination and In-water examination. the certification is valid three years.

The ARC / LG course is accepted by the Texas Department of Health Standards for Swimming Pools and Spas. Secton   265.199 (g),(1),(b)

What is the Lifeguard Management Program?

Program Description: This course teaches individuals the roles and responsibilities of a lifeguard supervisor with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage lifeguards and to create an environment that keeps patrons, lifeguards, and the aquatic facility safe.

Course Length: 16 hours

What is the Safety Training for Swim Coaches Program?

Program Description: Aquatic safety training for competitive swim coaches.  This program was developed cooperatively by the American Red Cross and the United States Swimming Association.  

Course Length: 7 hours

    What is the CPR / AED for the   
     Professional Reccuer Program?

     Program Description: To teach
      professional rescuers (those with a duty to
     act and provide care) the skills needed to
      respond appropriately to breathing and
      cardiac emergencies

     Course Length: 8 hours

     Fee:   (Check or Money Order)     
     Per Course  $ 65.00   (Payable to CISD)

      Saturday  8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m

     • Registration Deadline is one week
        before the first day of class.

      CPR Program?

     Program Description: To prepare
      individuals to overcome any reluctance to
      act in emergency situations and to recognize
     and care for life-threatening respiratory or
     cardiac emergencies in adults, children and
      infants. To also give individuals the
     knowledge and skills necessary to recognize
      and provide basic First Aid care for injuries
     and sudden illnesses until advance medical
      personnel arrive and take over.

     Course Length: 8 hours

     Per Course   $65.00  (Payable to CISD)

     What is the Sport Safety Training      
      Program?

     Program Description: Teaches individuals
     the knowledge and skills necessary to
      provide a safe environment for athletes while
     they are participating in sports and in an
     emergency, to help sustain life and minimize
     consequences of injury or sudden illness until
      medical help arrives.  This program was
    developed jointly by the American Red Cross
    and the U.S. Olympic Committee.    
    Course Length: 7 hours
